STD 10 Maths Basic and Standard Model Papers 2021-22: Following in the CBSE’s footsteps, the Gujarat education department has also decided to offer two options of different levels of Mathematics subjects to class 10 students from the academic year 2020-21. Class 10 students appearing for the Gujarat board exam in 2022 will be able to choose if they wish to take up Mathematics-Basic or Mathematics-Standard, based on their further academics as well as subject exams.
The decision brings relief for parents and teachers alike as it is in Mathematics that a majority of students fail. In the March 2020 exam, the passing percentage in Mathematics was 60.76% — 39% of students failed it.

According to GSHSEB, class 10 students will have to study the same textbook and syllabus. After gauging their interest and understanding of the subject based on textbook learning, students will be able to opt for either Mathematics- Basic or Mathematics- Standard at the time of filling up board exam forms. Board officials said the New Education Policy mentions giving two options to students in subjects like Mathematics. “Students will be given a question paper in class 10 exams based on their choice.

While basic have a basic level of questions, choosing Standard Maths will have a higher level of difficulty of questions. Both the formats will have separate marks, weightage to chapters, marks allocated to it, etc.,” said officials. Those who opt for Mathematics Standard will be able to be admitted to the Science stream in class 11 and the general stream. Those who opt for the basic option but want to take up Science subjects will have to appear for the Mathematics Standard format subject exam in remedial exams in July.

Those who opt for Mathematics Standard but fail in the subject will again be given options, and an exam for the chosen subject will be taken as per the remedial exam norms. The proposal to offer two Mathematics levels to students has been in discussion since CBSE implemented it. Students said that the decision is good for them. Heer Joshi, a Class 10 student of Vijaynagar High School said that having this option will take away the exam pressure.
